Maintenance & Care Pathway

About Maintenance Physiotherapy

Maintenance physiotherapy focuses on preventing injuries and maintaining optimal physical condition in healthy horses or dogs. This proactive approach helps identify subtle issues—such as muscle imbalances or gait abnormalities—before they develop into serious problems. Regular physiotherapy sessions can enhance your horse’s or dog’s comfort and performance while significantly reducing injury risk, making it valuable even for horses or dogs that aren’t currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Our Maintenance & Care physiotherapy service provides positive benefits through:

  • Injury prevention — Maintaining your animal’s optimal physical condition through manual therapy combined with ongoing exercise programs
  • Early detection — Identifying subtle issues like muscle imbalances or gait abnormalities before they develop into serious problems
  • Enhanced performance — Improving comfort, mobility, and overall performance, even in animals that aren’t actively undergoing rehabilitation

Veterinary Referral Requirements

Following RCVS guidance released in November 2020 (Chapter 19 of the Code of Professional Conduct), veterinary referral is not required for maintenance care treatment on healthy animals. However, if your animal is currently under veterinary care for an ongoing condition, a veterinary referral will still be needed before treatment can begin. Please visit our the Rehabilitation page of our website

Please be advised that your horse or dog must be registered with a veterinary practice as I will contact your vet to inform them prior to attending.
